Current Porcelain

Since 2014, I have worked primarily with porcelain. The transition was smooth as a fussy clay fits well with my personality; I like change and I like challenges. I have been able to translate the faceting and altering techniques I used on stoneware to porcelain.

I am still primarily fire in the oxidizing atmosphere of an electric kiln. Now the challenge is to develop a new repertoire of surface treatments that leverage the beauty of porcelain; have depth and texture despite being fired in an electric kiln; and also incorporate the minerals and crystal forms that interest me.

Below is a gallery-in-the-works of my newer porcelain pots. Check back for more and follow my Instagram site for more frequent updates.

2020

In 2020, I focused on a series I called the pseudo-cube, which included cups, bowls, and baskets. I also explored different representations of hexagonal lattices; thereby pairing the conundrum of hematite crystals having a pseudo-cubic micro-shape despite their underlying hexagonal lattice. More on this science on my MINERALS page.

2021

In 2021, I continued exploring cubic forms and symmetry while developing surface designs that leverage the underlying brilliance of porcelain.

2022

At the start of 2022, I had some turkeys and cats invade my studio, leaving their tracks all over my pots … is this a sign of what an adventure this year will be?! Cheers!
