Description

Pseudocubic tea bowls thrown then altered porcelain with hexagonal lattice motif and celadon glaze, cone 6 oxidation.

Approximate dimensions 3 inches high, 3.375 inches wide; holds approximately 10 oz liquid.

The hexagonal lattice motif was made from iron oxide slip that was made with hematite crystals with pseudocubic microstructure.  The hexagonal lattice motif was made to represent the hexagonal atomic symmetry of the hematite crystals, which do not display hexagonal morphology at the microscale.  The MAD Pottress introduced a pseudocubic series of pots for 2020 to illustrate the conundrum of a crystal with hexagonal symmetry at the atomic scale, but cubic symmetry at the microscale. In modern science and engineering, materials with such ‘hierarchical structures’ have unique properties, and are breaking traditional performance limitations in optoelectronic devices, including those that generate sustainable energy.

Price listed is for a single teabowl.  Please list color/glaze preference when ordering
